For people looking for a love story this week, Teri Meri Kahaani is three love stories packed into one. The big question was whether Kunal Kohli would deliver the goods after a serious dud like Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic which almost made people write him off. Thankfully Teri Meri Kahaani does salvage back some pride for him. The movie would have been a serious letdown if not for the sparkling lead pair and their sparkling chemistry. The music too adds to the goods.
The story is divided into three parts:
1960 Bombay: A film star and a wannabe music director fall in love but all hell breaks loose because of an unfortunate misunderstanding.
2012 London: A disgruntled youngster falls in love with a girl who stacks him up in jail for stealing her cell phone.
1910 Lahore: A Philandering dude falls madly in love with a Sikhni who is then married off to someone else.
Kunal Kohli efficiently, packs in three stories together and ends them convincingly. There are drag periods a plenty but thankfully we have enough going on to keep us interested. The setting of the stories in different eras adds to its charm. The CGI is efficiently rendered and the cast gels in with the setting perfectly to make the effect compounded. Sahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra play the love birds in all the three stories and are able to display a gamut of expressions for each of the eras and surprisingly with panache. The fact that I have not seen 1910 Lahore and 1960 Bombay only made things more believable for me which coincidentally will be the case with most of its target audience.
The climax of the three stories is wonderfully crafted and the fact the stories would leave you with a feel good happy feeling increases its charm with for the teeny-blooper, candy-floss couples who come in pairs holding hands and leave doing the same. We can’t expect Oscar worthy drama and gritty storytelling from a movie called “Teri Meri Kahaani” right? It’s there to serve as a date movie and fortunately it does a little more than that.
Sahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra tank in their roles. Sahid’s Javed of 1910 Lahore is my favorite act out of the three while Priyanka looks and emotes the best as Rukhsar of 1960 Bombay. Prachi Desai and Neha Sharma in their bit roles do grab attention and look petty. The music is good all the way through though the movie could have done away with at least two songs.
Teri Meri Kahaani is a date movie and don’t take it to anything more than that. So if you have the patience for falling in love three times over or have a girl who would kill you for being unromantic then grab your popcorn and let Teri Meri Kahaani take you over…!!
